2023 Loop de'Ville - Rescheduled Full Hike

Rain forced the cancellation of some of our Loop de'Ville activities, but the annual hike around the City on the Rivanna Trail will go on! A small group of dedicated hikers is getting together this Saturday for a self-directed hike around the Loop, and invite other interested participants to join.

We will not have aid stations or any other events - this is a hike with friends on the RT, pure and simple. We will make a stop at Bodo's (about 1/3 of the way), and there are additional restrooms and food options when we reach Fifth Street, but you will want to bring your own snacks and water.

  • Distance: ~ 21 miles.
  • Hiking time: approximately 8-9 hours. This is variable due to rest stops and hiking speeds. We are not out to set any time record, but will keep a steady pace. People who want to drop out along the way may certainly do so, but are responsible for their own transportation home.
  • We hike around the City in a counterclockwise direction, using road walks and detours where necessary.
  • Start/Finish: The Wool Factory is at 1837 Broadway Street. There's plenty of parking, and we'll leave from the RT bridge at the lower edge of the lot promptly at 8:30.
  • What to bring: boots or sturdy shoes, clothes appropriate for “urban wilderness” hiking and for weather conditions, water, snacks, personal needs. There are some rock-hops and small streams to cross, so participants may want to bring a pair of water-safe shoes or sandals.
  • Important note: This is a strenuous hike--not technically difficult, but it's a long day. Be sure you feel ready for an all-day hike and have footwear that is already broken in.
