The Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Department is leading the effort to replace trails at Ragged Mountain Natural Area during construction of the new dam. About half of the new trails have already been built and the City is hoping to complete all trails by this fall. With enough help on Trails Day, significant progress can be made toward this goal to restore public access.
Volunteers are needed to help with this effort, and you can help. The City will provide tools and gloves for the project, as well as snacks and water. If you are interested in working on this project, please contact Chris Gensic or call 434-970-3656 to sign up. No experience necessary.
Due to construction and safety requirements, volunteers are not allowed to access the park at the regular trailhead on Reservoir Road. Volunteers will meet at an off-site parking lot and be shuttled up to a different access point, so it is important to RSVP in order to participate. Also, volunteers should wear boots or closed-toe shoes for safety while building the new trails.
